Worshiping the Environment

“…and God created man, and gave him dominion over the fish, and the birds, and the animals, and over all the earth, and over every living thing upon the earth…and God said unto man, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the whole of the earth….”

Most of us have at least a passing familiarity with the Genesis creation story.  Somewhere along the line of recent history, that Judeo-Christian religious message has been replaced with a new religion, Environmentalism.  And they’re indoctrinating your children and grandchildren with this newfound religion in the schools.

The environmental movement has managed to elevate Mother Nature to Goddess status, elevating anything “natural” to a high reverence.  At the same time, Mankind takes a back seat to “nature.”  Under the tenants of Environmentalism, when it’s Man vs Nature, Man is evil, the default loser.

Environmentalism fails to see Man as a part of nature.  Nature would take care of all things natural, absent interference from Man.  Man is evil.  And the greatest evil threatening earth today comes from the United States.  It is the sacred duty of Environmentalists to defeat evil, so that Nature can flourish on the earth, without Man.

It is somewhat paradoxical that these same Environmentalists see themselves as exempt from this evil that is inherent in Man.  Because these zealous Environmentalists care so much about the earth, because their intentions are so good and pure, they are allowed dispensation to defend the planet from the threat of Man, by any means, at any cost.

As is the case with every semi-organized religion, there are those practitioners who are fervent in their sacred devotions.  Then there are those who are part of the religion, but aren’t quite so zealous about it.  While the zealots won’t stand by and watch an innocent tree be murdered, the less zealous Environmentalists, those of the Conservation wing of the religion, know that trees, for example, are a renewable resource, one that can be harvested and replanted.

Conservationists respect the earth and it’s inhabitants.  But they realize those natural resources can be utilized without causing irreparable harm to the planet.  They know fishing and hunting doesn’t destroy the planet.  They know plants and minerals can be harvested in a safe manner, so as to minimize their impact.

Environmentalists keep coming up with new revelations about some human activity that is going to destroy the world.  Thirty years ago we faced an impending ice age from global cooling.  Twenty years ago it was acid rain.  Ten years ago we were killing the oceans by overfishing.  The current hysteria being preached by the Environmentalists is global warming.

There is actual scientific evidence that the earth is warming, slightly.  But so is Mars, Saturn, Pluto and every other planet in our solar system.  The sun is putting out massive amounts of energy, and it’s having an effect throughout our solar system.

Absent any real science, Environmentalism preaches that global warming is caused by Man.  As with any religion, we just have to take this on faith.  Those who know more than we do tell us it is so, so it must be fact.  And if we don’t believe it, we’re just too damn greedy and ignorant and selfish.

The omniscient United Nations has found that Man is the root cause of global warming.  They forecast melting of the polar ice caps, coastal flooding, desertification of farmland, and extinction of half the world’s species.  But, strangely, even though the U.N. finds Man is the cause of all this, there is nothing Man can do to avert such a catastrophic future.

Our own Supreme Court just ruled that carbon dioxide emissions are a pollutant and must be regulated by our government.  So the act of humans breathing is now legally defined as pollution.  But only in the United States.

According to Environmentalists, it’s all Man’s fault.  Specifically, humans living in the United States.  We waste energy.  We drive gas-guzzling cars.  We use wasteful and environmentally-damaging snowmobiles, outboard motors, ATV’s, lawn mowers, and barbeque grills. We keep our homes warm in the winter, cool in the summer.  We light our homes and businesses with artificial lighting.  We eat too much, and all that food production harms the planet.  And it’s all the fault of President Bush.  And Halliburton.  And big oil.  And Republicans.  And the rich.  But mostly President Bush.

Their solution?  From the Environmental rhetoric, you’d think, ultimately, it involves getting Man out of the United States, so that the land is as it was before Europeans arrived here.  But failing that, it always comes back to raising taxes.  Environmentalists want higher taxes on fuels, on automobiles, on energy production, and on energy consumption.  Even though the High Priests of the Environmentalists and the U.N. say nothing can be done to avert the catastrophes of global warming, Americans need to pay higher taxes.

Keep the Faith.
