When I was in school I used to be pretty good at taking
tests. A recent letter
to the editor of the Lakeland Times newspaper from Leon and Margaret Anderson of St.
Germain included ten simple questions requiring ten simple yes or no answers from
our current elected officials in Washington.
Here’s how
I’d answer those good questions:
1.
Will you support any public health bill that includes a federally controlled
health insurance option that most likely will eventually eliminate private
health insurance companies?
* Yes S No
2. Will
you support the upcoming "Cap and Trade" bill that will dramatically
increase energy costs?
* Yes S No
3. Do
you support the request from our generals on the ground for more troops to be
sent to Afghanistan?
S Yes * No
4. Will
you sponsor or support a bill to ban the president from appointing
"czars" without Senate confirmation?
S Yes * No
5. Do
you support the administration's plan to "bail out certain failing
newspapers?"
* Yes S No
6. Do
you support the administration's current attacks on Fox News for giving the
American public fair and balanced reporting?
* Yes S No
7. Will
you sponsor or support a bill to end ALL "pork" in future bills?
S Yes * No
8. Do
you support diverting funds from the military budget for other non-military
projects, such as building museums?
* Yes S No
9. Do
you support allowing officials of labor unions to write language for pending
legislation, as was done in the stimulus bill?
* Yes S No
10. I
hear rumors that the 2010 income tax forms will require all gun owners to list
the guns they own and pay a fee for each firearm. It this for real? And
if so, would you support such legislation or any other unconstitutional bills
that interfere with our 2nd Amendment rights to keep and bear arms?
* Yes S No
These questions could be answered with more in-depth answers.
But, like you, when I hear someone ask an
elected official a question, I want, first and foremost, a straight answer to
that question.
Every Congressional candidate should be able to answer these
questions with a simple yes or no answer.
It’s okay to take a little time to ponder a question. But, in the end, give us a straight
answer. Yes or no?
