A trillion here, a trillion
there, pretty soon we’re talking about serious money.
Most of us have heard Aesop’s
fable about the goose that laid the golden egg. So why is it, then, that, for all their preaching about how much
they care for children, liberal Democrats (oops, my mistake - they don’t like
to be called liberals - they call themselves progressives) seem never to have
learned the simple lessons of that fable?
Despite clear warnings and historic lessons about what would happen if they did so, voters chose to put liberal Democrats (oops, my mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call themselves progressives) in charge of governing our Republic.
The era of Big Government is back. And this time it’s on steroids.
We’re seeing what unchecked political power is
capable of. The liberal Democrats
(oops, my mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call
themselves progressives) now governing our Republic are imposing their
Socialist agenda as fast as they can.
Yes, it’s Socialism at it’s most insidious form –
by popular demand.
Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. promised to bring
fundamental change to America. He’s
changing America all right – from a representative Republic with a capitalist
economy to a Socialist Republic with a communist economy. Just what the world needs, another Socialist
Republic.
In the last six months, the liberal Democrats
(oops, my mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call
themselves progressives) who control Congress have put the American Taxpayers
on the hook for almost $10 trillion in obligations and guarantees. If you bother to add in the cost of the
unbudgeted obligations such as Social Security and Medicare, that figure swells
to over $65 Trillion in Taxpayer obligations.
At the same time, the liberal Democrats (oops,
my mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call themselves
progressives) in Washington are imposing confiscatory tax rates on the very
people who actually create high paying jobs in the private sector.
Just one example - on March 19, the House of
Representatives introduced H.R.
1586, as “emergency legislation.”
This legislation seeks “to impose an additional
tax on bonuses received from certain TARP recipients.” That additional tax rate is 90%. The legislation also states that the
effective date of the legislation is December 31, 2008.
I may be just a simple scribe in the woods, but
it seems to me we have this little thing called a Constitution, which specifically says “No bill of attainder or
ex post facto law shall be passed.” (Article
I, Section 9)
A bill
of attainder is a legislative act pronouncing a person guilty of a crime
without trial and subjecting that person to capital punishment and
attainder. An ex post facto law is
a law that makes an act punishable as a crime when such an act was not a crime
when committed.
The AIG employees who received bonus payments were contractually
entitled to those bonus payments. There
was no additional tax on such bonuses, beyond what was already provided for in
the tax code at the time of those payments.
To try to retroactively tax those payments at 90% (or at any rate) is an
unconstitutional ex post facto bill of attainder.
If the liberal Democrats (oops, my
mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call themselves
progressives) get away with this, don’t be surprised when those high tax rates
begin to creep down the chain to other taxpayers.
They’re even proposing to tax charitable contributions. They want to replace private charitable
donations with government charity.
This same group of liberal
Democrats (oops, my mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call
themselves progressives) who have been so successful at managing this economic
mess they created in the first place that they now want to expand their
management to cover your medical care.
And they want to impose their management style on all of private industry
through something they’re calling cap-n-trade, where they will impose taxes on
carbon emissions, in order to save the earth from global warming.
(So how many times did you breathe while you have
been reading this? Remember, with every
breath you exhale carbon dioxide.)
The liberal Democrats (oops, my
mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call themselves
progressives) are also seeking the power to “take over” any private
sector business whose demise is deemed by some unknown bureaucrat to be harmful
to the nation’s economy. (Can you say
General Motors?)
These same liberal Democrats (oops, my mistake -
they don’t like to be called liberals - they call themselves progressives) are
also talking openly about “leveling the playing field” when it comes to your
paycheck. They call this “economic
justice.” They actually are proposing
to legislate employee compensation based on performance.
Interesting how all these rules and regulations
won’t be applicable to Members of Congress.
We’ve allowed liberal Democrats (oops, my
mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call themselves
progressives) to legislate a minimum
wage; so it would stand to reason they now think they can legislate a maximum
wage.
Liberal Democrats (oops, my mistake - they don’t
like to be called liberals - they call themselves progressives) have declared
open season on capitalists, on the private sector, on anyone who earns a dollar
more than whatever arbitrary level of income they deem to be sufficient. From each, according to his means, to each,
according to his needs.
Meanwhile, Macedonia
is running ads in America to attract investment in that country. They’re opening their arms to welcome American
geese, and helping develop goose farms in Macedonia.
The liberal Democrats (oops, my mistake - they
don’t like to be called liberals - they call themselves progressives) have
declared open season on geese. They’re repeating
Aesop’s golden goose fable – except this isn’t a fable. And the geese they’re targeting are your
kids and grandkids.
