By definition, a madman is, well, nuts.
There have been a rash of stories in the media lately, calling
for the U.S. to close it’s detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The gist of these stories slant sharply to
the left, and usually end by calling for the impeachment of President Bush.
So, instead of trying to argue with the rationale of these
stories, let’s just say we’ll buy their premise.
There are approximately 530 enemy prisoners being held at
the Guantanamo facility. Included in
these detainees are at least 12 who were previously detained overseas, were
released, and were later re-captured on the battlefield. All of the detainees at G’itmo are there
because they were captured trying to kill Americans and our allies. For them, they are fighting a Holy War
against the Infidels, following the 1996 Declaration
of War against America by Usama Bin Muhammad
Bin In Laden.
Let’s say we were to close the facility at G’itmo. We cannot simply tell these detainees “Sorry”
and send them back where they were captured, can we? Even though these detainees are not fighting under a flag of a
country that is a signatory to the Geneva Conventions, the U.S. courts have ruled
that they are entitled to a trial, under an American system of jurisprudence. We’d have to bring them here, to American
soil.
Now play along with me here. Once these detainees arrive in America, if we follow the lead of
the media stories, we’d have to find room in our prisons for them while their
cases are decided. We’d have to find
lawyers to represent them all. We’d
have to find federal prosecutors to charge each of them in a court. We’d have to find federal judges to hear
their cases. We’d need the U.S. Senate
to confirm a few more judges just to hear these cases.
Undoubtedly, we’d have cases where a bleeding heart judge
would order the detainee released on bond, while he awaits the disposition of
his case. He’d, of course, be given a
hearing date, at which time he would be expected to appear again in the judge’s
court.
Until that time, he would be free to roam America, exercising
Constitutional Rights commonly exercised by American Citizens.
(Remember, each of these detainees sees himself as a
soldier, sworn to kill the enemy – Americans – wherever he can find them.)
If these detainees who were granted release on bond ever did
re-appear for their hearings, a number of them would have their cases dismissed
for one reason or another. Once
released, these people would be told they must report to the nearest
Immigration & Naturalization Service office, for deportation.
Assuming they showed up at the INS offices, a number of
these people would then apply for asylum so that they could stay in
America. Those who never show up would
simply blend into the illegal alien population already living here outside of
the law.
Just how many of these 530 detainees would you feel
comfortable letting roam America? What
if they decided to move into your neighborhood? Remember, they were captured as they tried to kill Americans
overseas. They’re on a Holy War against
America. They don’t care what color your skin is. They don’t care how much money you
have. And as long as you do not follow
the teachings of Islam, they don’t care which god you worship.
What they care about is that you are an American, and for
that, they want to kill you. By doing
so, they expect to be rewarded in Paradise.
So…do you still want the detention center at Guantanamo Bay
closed?
